Independent ecological expertise
Noctula Ecology is a specialist ecological consultancy based in East Lothian, Scotland, providing practical, independent ecological advice with a particular focus on bats and protected species.
Founded by Hazel Forrest, an experienced ecologist, NatureScot-licensed bat worker, and qualified tree climber, Noctula Ecology brings together hands-on ecological fieldwork with a strong understanding of species conservation and policy.
We specialise in licensed bat work, aerial bat roost assessments of trees surveys, and can offer a range of other terrestrial ecology services for landowners, developers, arboricultural professionals and ecological consultancies. We also provide ecological writing and policy advice, drawing on professional experience in species conservation and conservation policy.
Our approach is straightforward: good ecological advice should be scientifically robust, proportionate and practical to deliver. We work collaboratively with clients and other professionals to understand the ecological issues at a site, identify proportionate solutions and help projects move forward while protecting biodiversity.
Noctula is deliberately small and flexible. This means we can provide a personal service, respond quickly to specialist requirements and work directly with clients or as part of a wider project team.
Based in East Lothian, we work across Scotland, with a particular interest in bats, trees and the interface between development, land management and nature conservation..
